Sree Krishna Swamy Temple, Ambalappuzha

Popularly known as the Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple, this is one of the seven great Vaishnava temples in Kerala. This holy shrine is situated in Alappuzha district, and Lord Vishnu the presiding deity appears as here in the guise of Parthasarathy, the charioteer of Arjuna from the epic Mahabharata.

The temple is believed to have been built during the 15th - 17th CE by Pooradam Thirunal Devanarayanan Thampuran, ruler of the erstwhile Chembakassery kingdom. This shrine highlights Kerala style of architecture and is noted for its Chuttambalam (building constructed around the sanctum sanctorum) that is adorned with beautiful wall paintings. The main offering at this temple is delicious sweet milk porridge, popularly known as Ambalappuzha Palpayasam.
